ORAL SURGERY

In our office, oral surgery procedures that are typically needed are wisdom teeth removal, bone grafting, alveoplasty, or tori removal. Also, emergency splinting for fractured teeth is also needed in cases of trauma.

Oral biopsies are also performed on a case-by-case basis. Abnormal gum tissue or hard tissue growth are sometimes associated with oral cancerous lesions. A biopsy is a procedure in which a sample of the abnormal tissue is removed and sent to a pathology lab for analysis under a microscope. Things that doctors typically look for are:

  • sores or lesions on the gums that last for more than 2 weeks
  • a white or red patch on the gums or tongue
  • oral ulcers
  • swelling of the gums that does not go away
  • rapid changes in the gum or bone
